At Regnum Hospitality Bulgaria, sustainability is not a trend or a checkbox. It is a deeply rooted value, a strategic priority and a long-term commitment that defines the way we build, operate and grow. From the alpine slopes of Bansko to the healing thermal waters of Banya, each of our properties is guided by a unified vision: to offer refined, meaningful hospitality while protecting the natural, social and cultural environments that surround us.

Across all of our destinations, including Regnum Bansko Mountain Resort, Regnum Bansko Aquapark Complex, Regnum Banya Thermal Hotel and Regnum Banya Thermal Complex, we implement integrated sustainability practices that encompass energy, food, mobility, community, wellness and biodiversity.

CLEAN ENERGY AND CLIMATE ACTION

We are actively transitioning toward a low-carbon future. At Regnum Banya Thermal Hotel and Complex, a significant portion of our energy needs is covered through on-site solar panel systems. These installations reduce our carbon emissions and lower our dependency on non-renewable resources. Our energy use is monitored and analyzed through a centralized sustainability dashboard to ensure continuous improvement in efficiency and impact.

In our mountain properties, we prioritize building insulation, automated heating control and energy-efficient lighting to reduce seasonal consumption. Energy audits and environmental KPIs are part of our annual performance reviews.

WATER AND RESOURCE CONVERSATION

Water is life. We treat it as such. Our thermal facilities rely on naturally flowing mineral water, which is used responsibly and recycled through closed-loop systems wherever possible. In guest rooms and wellness areas, low-flow fixtures and smart water management technologies help us reduce waste without compromising comfort.

We also monitor our overall environmental footprint through tools that measure water, energy and waste per occupied room. These tools allow us to set tangible reduction targets year over year.

SUSTAINABLE GASTRONOMY AND CIRCULAR FOOD SYSTEMS

At the heart of every Regnum property is an extraordinary culinary experience. Behind the scenes, we work with advanced food waste mapping systems that prevent overproduction and optimize storage. This reduces food waste at the source.

All of our food and beverage procurement follows a 100 percent local sourcing policy. Every fruit, vegetable, meat and dairy product is purchased from regional suppliers and small farms. This supports local economies, ensures seasonal freshness, reduces emissions from transport and strengthens our connection to Bulgarian food heritage.

In addition, we have eliminated single-use plastics in all restaurant and bar operations. These materials have been replaced with compostable or reusable alternatives.

GREEN MOBILTY AND LOW-EMISSON OPERATION

We recognize that mobility is one of the key challenges in sustainable tourism. For this reason, Regnum encourages both guests and employees to use public or shared transport options. Our resorts offer scheduled shuttle services, including transfers between Regnum Banya and Bansko. These transfers help reduce individual car use and associated emissions.

We are currently evaluating the introduction of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and hotel-owned electric transport options for internal use within larger complexes.

COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL RESPONSIBILITY

Sustainability is not only about the planet. It is also about people. At Regnum, we maintain strong partnerships with local artisans, growers and service providers. These partnerships contribute to the resilience of the communities in which we operate. We invest in local employment, provide fair working conditions and support seasonal job opportunities in remote regions.

We also engage in cultural preservation by supporting regional events, local music and heritage-based culinary projects. These initiatives bring Bulgaria’s traditions to the forefront of our guest experiences.

ANIMAL WELFARE AND BIODIVERSITY

Respect for nature includes respect for all living beings. On our properties, animals that reside within or nearby are treated with care and dignity. We provide routine veterinary oversight in collaboration with local specialists. In all landscaping, construction and operational work, we ensure natural habitats are protected.

In the Banya region, where natural wildlife coexists with thermal activity, we work to keep our grounds safe for both guests and animals. We do this through sustainable fencing, designated protected zones and educational signage.

EDUCATION, AWARENESS AND GUEST ENGAGEMENT

Sustainability at Regnum is not a back-office operation. It is a visible, shared and participatory culture. Through initiatives such as "ReGreen", "Move-On Regnum" and "Clean Nature, Clear Future", we invite team members and guests to take part in environmental clean-ups, tree planting, wellness walks and plastic-free challenges.

Every room at our hotels includes information about our sustainability actions and ways guests can contribute. These include towel and linen reuse programs, support for local charities and access to our environmental goals.
